Why Do We Get Sick? What Your Body Is Really Trying to Tell You

Instead of an Introduction

I genuinely can’t remember the last time I was sick. Really – I have no memory of it. Even though I travel constantly, moving through different climates, temperatures, foods, and time zones – I haven’t had a cold, flu, or fever in years. And it’s not just me – my family too.

Why? Because the body doesn’t get sick because of the season or the people around us. The body speaks. And when you learn to listen – you simply stop getting sick.

Today, let’s take a closer look at what “colds” and flu are really trying to tell us.

What Is a “Cold” Trying to Tell You?

Let’s start with this: there’s no such thing as a “cold.” There are only symptoms – a runny nose, cough, fatigue – all signs that the body is trying to release something held inside, or that it’s reacting to subconscious beliefs.

When we understand this, we dramatically reduce our chances of getting sick.

Now let’s go deeper into what the cold is really saying.

The Emotional Messages Behind Cold Symptoms

Crossed Inner Boundaries

First of all, a cold often signals weakened resistance – not only to physical, but to emotional stressors. In other words, it reflects an internal conflict between the need to rest and the pressure to keep going.

Suppressed Emotions

Similarly, cold symptoms frequently appear after prolonged emotional suppression – especially anger, sadness, or disappointment. As a result, the body, through inflammation of the mucous membranes, tries to “release” what’s been trapped inside. This could be unspoken thoughts, unshed tears, or words you haven’t dared to say.

The Need to Stop

Moreover, a cold may arise when you’ve been pushing yourself relentlessly, living in constant tension or exhaustion without allowing time to rest. Therefore, illness becomes a subconscious excuse – permission to stop, stay home, rest, and temporarily withdraw from responsibilities.

Inability to Say “No”

Additionally, many who fall ill frequently are people who prioritize others and ignore their own needs. Consequently, when you suppress your desires for too long, the body starts speaking for you – through a runny nose, cough, or fever.

Contact Conflicts

Furthermore, according to deeper biological systems, the nasal mucosa reacts to “unwanted” or unpleasant contact – whether physical or symbolic. For example, this might be feeling “attacked” by information, words, people, or even smells. Interestingly, the reaction often shows up after the conflict ends, during the healing phase.

Environmental Fear

In addition, a cold may activate when you feel unsafe, uncertain, or subconsciously sense that “something is off.” As a result, the symptoms become a physical response to emotional threat or ambiguity that you can’t consciously process.

Energetic Blocks

Beyond that, the nose is energetically connected to intuition and the ability to “sense the truth.” When you disconnect from your intuition, suppress your inner knowing, or ignore clear perception, breathing through the nose may become difficult. Thus, it’s a symbolic signal that you’ve lost touch with your inner truth.

Belief Systems

Moreover, colds often reflect beliefs like: “Getting sick is the only way I can rest,” “I have to get sick to be seen,” or “Being sick is safer than being responsible.” They also stem from collective programs like: “Fall/Winter = getting sick.”

Transgenerational Patterns

Finally, sometimes recurring colds are tied to family patterns – for example, if a parent frequently got sick as a way to receive attention, a child may unconsciously inherit this as a strategy for gaining safety or love.

Simply the Result of Beliefs

Ultimately, a cold can be a direct result of belief systems and fear-based thinking.

Common Beliefs That Attract Colds

Now, let’s look at the specific beliefs that keep pulling illness into your life.

Weather & Environment Beliefs

For instance:

  • “If the wind blows on me – I’ll get sick.”
  • “Drafts always make me sick.”
  • “If I sit on something cold – I’ll get sick.”
  • “Without a hat – I’ll catch a chill.”
  • “Air conditioning always makes me sick.”
  • “If I get cold – I’ll definitely get sick.”
  • “Wet feet = guaranteed illness.”

Seasonal Beliefs

Additionally:

  • “I always get sick this time of year.”
  • “In fall/winter I always get sick – it’s just that season.”
  • “Better to get sick now than during the holidays.”

Social Contagion Beliefs

Furthermore:

  • “Everyone around me is sick – I’ll get sick too.”
  • “If someone at home is sick – it’s only a matter of time before I am.”
  • “Getting sick is inevitable – just have to endure it.”

Self-Identity Beliefs

Moreover:

  • “My immune system is weak – I’m always sick.”
  • “I’m prone to getting sick – it’s just my body/genetics.”
  • “Colds are what I inherited from my mom/dad.”
  • “I can’t be completely healthy – that’s unrealistic.”
  • “Health costs too much effort – it’s easier to be sick.”

Fear-Based Beliefs

Finally:

  • “If I feel a little cold – that’s it, I’m already sick.”
  • “I’m too tired – which means I’ll get sick.”
  • “I’m so afraid of getting sick that I’ll get sick.”

Deeper Subconscious Programs

Beyond the surface beliefs, there are deeper programs running in the background.

Need for Permission to Rest

For example:

  • “Illness gives me permission to rest – otherwise I can’t stop.”
  • “Only through illness do I stop and hear myself.”
  • “When I’m sick – I rest. If I rest – I must be sick.”

Need for Love & Attention

Similarly:

  • “When I’m sick, people care for me and love me more.”
  • “I get sick because that’s when I feel needed.”
  • “If I’m not sick, no one will notice me.”

Avoidance & Protection

In addition:

  • “When I’m sick, I have the right to be alone and withdraw.”
  • “Illness is safety – an escape from pressure.”
  • “Illness helps me avoid conflict.”
  • “Illness is the only way to avoid unpleasant duties.”
  • “Illness is a way to say ‘no’ without guilt.”

Fear of Strength

Moreover:

  • “Being healthy = having to endure everything, even when I can’t.”
  • “If I’m too strong, no one will pity me.”
  • “If I’m always healthy – I’ll have to do more.”

Inherited Patterns

Finally:

  • “Colds are normal – there’s no other way.”
  • “I’m prone to getting sick – it’s just my body/genetics.”

We’ve explored how colds speak through the body – now let’s look at their more intense cousin: the flu. While colds whisper, the flu often shouts.

The Deeper Meaning of Flu Symptoms

Sudden Emotional Collapse
First, the flu often appears suddenly, mirroring an internal emotional breakdown. It’s as if everything was held inside for too long – exhaustion, pressure, disappointment – and the system finally gives out.

Conflict Between Aggression and Control
Furthermore, the flu can be triggered by an internal battle between “I want to escape” and “I have to stay.” This could be a work, family, or inner situation where you feel powerless yet trapped. Consequently, the body responds – with fever, body aches, weakness – forcing you to finally let go of control.

Spiritual Crisis
In some cases, the flu is a symbolic “burning” of old programs. Therefore, fever becomes an internal cleansing – an intense energetic transformation during an inner crisis. It can be a deep shift in consciousness, especially if the flu “knocks you down” and forces you to rethink your direction.

Subconscious Desire to Isolate
Additionally, the flu is often connected to a need to withdraw from your environment. It may be a subconscious reaction to too many people, information overload, or conflict. As a result, isolation allows you to restore inner safety.

Collective Programming

Moreover, the flu is heavily encoded in our collective subconscious. Most people expect that “you’re supposed to get sick” during the cold months. This collective belief, when unconsciously accepted, activates the expectation – which then materializes in the body.

Ultimately, the flu is not random. It’s your internal system signaling that something inside has reached a critical threshold. When you understand this – the flu stops being the enemy.

Beliefs That Invite the Flu

Now let’s examine the specific beliefs that trigger the flu.

Exhaustion & Collapse Beliefs

For instance:

  • “When I’m exhausted – I have to get sick.”
  • “To stop, I have to get seriously sick.”
  • “When my body collapses – I finally allow myself to rest.”
  • “I’m too weak to handle what’s happening – better to get sick.”
  • “My body can’t handle the pressure anyway – might as well break down now.”

Isolation & Avoidance Beliefs

Similarly:

  • “When I’m sick – no one bothers me.”
  • “I get sick when I don’t want to hear anything anymore.”
  • “When I’m sick, no one demands anything from me.”

Inherited & Cyclical Beliefs

Moreover:

  • “The flu is a natural cycle – I just have to go through it.”
  • “I get sick a lot – that’s just how my body is.”
  • “The flu always comes when I have too many responsibilities.”

Powerlessness Beliefs

Finally:

  • “I can’t resist viruses – they’re stronger than me.”
  • “Everyone around me is sick – so I have to get sick too.”
  • “I have to endure everything – until I get sick.”

Deeper Subconscious Fears & Programs

Beyond these surface beliefs, there are deeper fears driving the pattern.

Core Fears

For example:

  • Fear of stopping consciously – only illness “gives permission”
  • Fear of expressing anger – the body does it through fever
  • Fear of facing your limits – so the body sets them through illness
  • Fear of appearing weak – only strong illness allows you to break down
  • Fear of being yourself – illness becomes the excuse to withdraw
  • Fear of facing others’ expectations – illness helps you avoid them
  • Fear of changing life direction – the flu crisis “pauses” everything
  • Fear of being overlooked – illness attracts attention
  • Fear of taking responsibility – illness frees you from it

Subconscious Payoffs

In addition, here are the hidden benefits:

  • The flu allows you to rest without guilt
  • Gives permission to disconnect from the world
  • Provides justification to decline unwanted obligations
  • Brings care and attention from loved ones
  • Allows emotional release
  • Creates a necessary pause – the break you’ve been needing
  • Allows you to stop being strong
  • Helps you avoid decisions or conflicts
  • Gives suffering meaning – like a cleansing or redemption
  • Helps reset the system – through fever, through crisis

Do You Recognize Yourself in These Beliefs?

If so – you’re not alone. In fact, most people carry these programs their entire lives without realizing they’re active. And they keep getting sick, even though they’re “doing everything right” – exercising, eating well, taking vitamins, and trying to avoid getting sick.

However, in my view, trying to avoid illness often becomes the very cause of it – because underneath that effort is FEAR. And what we fear, we attract.

Therefore, if the problem isn’t in the body, but in the subconscious – medicine becomes powerless.

But what happens when it’s not you getting sick – but your child?

What If Your Child Gets Sick?

Children as Mirrors of the Home

Children’s illnesses are often a mirror of the home. A child has no filters – their body shows what the parents can’t see or won’t address.

Examples

For instance:

  • Mom lives in fear → child responds with anxiety, low immunity, allergies
  • Tension between parents → child gets sick to “ground” the tension and reunite the parents
  • Family is rushing, running, stressed → child gets sick, giving everyone permission to rest

The Truth

Interestingly, it’s often enough to clear the parents’ beliefs and release family fears – and the child heals. Without medicine. In other words, the body simply stops reflecting what was never theirs to carry.
